Yes, there will always be a point in your life that you will feel weak and sometimes this weakness may lead to hopelessness. Being weak is not just in terms of our physical strength but also on what we are feeling inside (emotions, spiritual, relationships). Weakness occurs whenever any of problem, suffering, disease, worry, anxiety, fear and sorrow is encountered.
Most people always find “weakness” as a negative word.
Well, definitely it is. But having God in your life, believing that everything that
is happening in your life has a purpose and that He is in control, you can
confidently say that Weakness can be a Blessing too!
During my younger days, I often hear my church-mates (Testimony time in our Youth fellowship) giving thanks to God, not just for all the blessings, provisions they are receiving but as well as to all the trials & sufferings they are encountering. I keep telling myself, "How come? How can they thank God, even in time of trials?” But as time goes by, God made me realized even these problems and trials can be a blessing from God too. Others may think this is hypocrisy because of the weight of the pain, the sufferings, but I personally believe that this is what God is teaching me, teaching us.
Most of us know and will agree that God allow trials in our lives. Without problems, we can never be the better version of ourselves; being “stronger”, “happier”, “braver”, etc. Often times, problem-less-ness can blind and intoxicate people.
Enough with my super long introduction. 😊
How can we tell if these trials & problems become a blessing?
Please Read ➡️ 2 Corinthians 12:1-10
One. When these problems humble us before
God.
Humility is one of the right attitudes before God. When we accept that we are weak in the presence of God, we are affirming that we are entrusting everything to God and we are acknowledging the greatness and sovereignty of God, His power over all the problems!
Two. When these problems remind us to pray.
When problems arise, worries preoccupy our mind. We tend forgetting to pray and just rely on our own capabilities to solve the problem. To some, since they haven’t encountered any problems in their lives, they sometimes forget to talk to God. The sad reality, sometimes we only remember to pray whenever we have trials ☹ That’s when problem becomes a blessing, as it reminds us to draw near to God. To relive the faith, to get down on our knees and pray.
PS: God knows everything, your needs, the solutions to your struggles, so why do we need to Pray? Because He loves to hear your voice, He wants you to talk to Him and personally ask Him about what you need. Just like a Father to his child.
In times of trials, remember Philippians 4:6-7 (Pray).
Three. When they remind us about our sin and stop
us from sinning.
Some problems are the consequences of our wrong acts, our
sins. And when we realized that, we will then ask God's forgiveness and ask for His help not to do the same things again. Not to do the same sins again.
Of course, there's no magic here nor nothing is instant. Ask God's guidance, ask Him to help you, rely on God. Lastly, help yourself too. God is always there and is willing to help but we should take action too. ;)
Four. When they bring us back to God.
Remember the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32)? It teaches us to return to God, even if we tend to forget Him, even if we run away from him and do our own will. God will still, open His arms wide to welcome His child, His children.
Amid the struggles, the problems, only in the arms of our Father, we can find refuge and strength!
Note to self:
In any season of life, draw near to God, obey His teachings and do His commands.
Five. When they make us sorrowful and lead us to look only to God.
Sorrow can be good for the soul. It causes us to think earnestly about ourselves. It makes us ponder our motives, our intentions, our interests. It really helps us to see God.
Persons in the Bible who experienced deep sorrow:
Job – Job
42:5
Jesus – John 11: 45, described as “a Man of sorrows”
We must remember that Godly sorrow is important because it may lead to repentance.
Six. When they reveal to us hidden and undiscovered God’s given grace.
Apostle Paul prayed to God to remove the pains he is encountering but the Lord answered, “My grace is sufficient for you." Indeed, God's grace overflows! Just wow! Even if we are not deserving, He is always there, always willing to give His grace, His unending love to you. And do not forget, His power is made perfect in Weakness. So whenever we feel weak, we feel stronger too! For our Great God is powerful!
So let us not lose hope in times of problems, when you feel weak. But let us rejoice in our weakness! For God is always with us. :) We can overcome every trial with God who gives us the strength!
